About Us

And whatsoever ye do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (Colossians 3:17, KJV)

We are a family of five, living on a homestead in Downeast Maine. It is our desire to follow God’s plan for our lives every day. We look forward to offering prayerfully-made, hand-crafted items, as a Christ-centered family business. We look forward to opening our home as a gallery and shop one day, but in the meantime, we are an online business. If you’d like to know more about our story, we hope you’ll check us out on our Social Media links!

Why Riven Joiner?

def. riven \ˈri-vən\ : split apart

def. joiner \ ˈjȯi-nər \ : a person whose occupation is to construct articles by joining pieces of wood

I am a self-taught woodworker, seeking to honor God each day with the work of my hands. I specialize in hand-crafting wooden objects for everyday use, using pre-industrial methods traditionally known as joinery, to create hard-working and long-lasting pieces that you can pass down to the next generation.

Almost all of the objects that I make begin with harvesting wood, and then riving it into lumber and drying it for future use. Some things, like utensils and bowls and staked furniture, are roughed out while they are green, and set aside to dry before completion. Every piece is hand-crafted from start to finish, resulting in a unique item every time.

I’ve found, in our own home, that you can make almost everything out of wood, and I’m always happy to try new things. Browse through our online Store, or reach out to me with a custom request at rivenjoiner@gmail.com, and I’ll see what I can design for you. I look forward to  sending something from the tree to your home!

We seek to honor the Lord in all ways, including with our pricing. If you’d like information on how we arrive at the prices for the items that we make, please visit Name Your Price. It’s our pleasure to be up-front and open about all aspects of our business!

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6, KJV)

Meet the kids!

Making things by-hand has become a way of life for the whole family. And it’s a story that’s just beginning for our three children…

Spencer (left, age 10), Genevieve (middle, age 7), and Asher (right, age 12) all enjoy working with their hands. They spend time each week learning in their daddy’s workshop, and are quick to imagine and work through projects of their own.

In 2018, they asked if they might be able to make some items to sell at craft fairs, so we sat down with them to choose some projects, plan some schedules, and book some events. They had a great time, and a very successful craft fair season. It was the first time for all of us, and lots of fun.

And their experience has only led them to be more comfortable in the workshop, to have more ideas for new projects, and to experience more joy in working with their hands to bring an idea into reality!

We are glad that God has given us the opportunity to work together as a family, honoring the Lord with the work of our hands. We look forward to the opportunity to hand-craft something special, from our home to yours!

…and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you; that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing. (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, WEB)
