This. Every Day.

A devotional graphic is set on a sunrise background: Every word of God is always exactly what you need to hear.

God’s word is not like man’s word.

How often do we see something or share something that’s like, “This. Right now. This is me. I needed to hear this.”

And when it’s just the words of the world, it’s a valid point. We may stumble across a message that’s exactly right for where we’re at in life right now, and another message we’ll take a pass on because we’ve already been there.

But we can’t do that with God’s word! We can’t listen to a sermon and be like…

“Oh, that convicted me. That word was for me. That was speaking right to my situation.”

…as though there are some other teachings that are not “for me”, like…

“I’m pretty good on the whole forgiveness thing, so that didn’t really speak to me. But the one about resting in God’s grace – now that spoke to me! That message is for me right now.”

It’s tempting, but it’s wrong, because God’s word is not like man’s word, and we shouldn’t treat it like it is.

The truth is, the word of God, every word of God, is always for you all the time.

This. Every Day. Every word of God is always exactly what you need to hear. Every one. All the time.

So if the word of God is in the teaching, there’s no longer a question of whether it’s for you or not. There’s no longer a question of whether it applies to what you’re going through in this season of life or not. There’s no longer a question of whether it’s just what you needed to hear right now or not.

If the pastor stands up and reads the lineage of Jesus, name by name, and nothing else, that sermon is for you, right now. If the message is from the book Numbers, counting out the tribes of Israel, that word is for you, right now. If the teaching is from the book of Revelation, Chapter 3, that word is for you, right now. No matter what book, no matter what chapter, no matter what verse, if you’re seeing it or you’re reading it or you’re hearing it, that word is for you, right now.

If you love the Lord, the question is no longer whether the message is for you. The question is simply, is the word of God in the message?

And as long as the answer is yes, that word is for you ~ and now you can enjoy all the wonders of seeking the Lord in obedience and in study and in prayer to find out how it’s for you!
