The tools for by-hand woodworking can be quite specialized. These hook-knives are made for carving out the bowls of spoons. They are really essential to spoon-carving but can be a challenge to store, especially if you want to be able to take them on-the-go.

A couple of rainy days gave Joe the time he needed to try out some designs that had been marinating in the back of his mind while he had been going about other farm and homestead work.
Almost like puzzle-boxes, these hand-carved wooden sheaths provide a secure storage option that’s custom-fit and fun to look at!
The first sheath, constructed of purpleheart and ash, pivots on a pin in the upper-righthand corner and is secured by a sliding-dovetail peg.
The second sheath, constructed of walnut and ash, pivots on a pin in the lower-lefthand corner and is secured by a tapered peg through the center.

Both designs are easy-to-use and beautifully meet this specific need ~ a custom design for a specialized tool for a particular purpose.

We like to take our work with us when we can, and with custom wooden sheaths, these hook-knives are now ready to toss into a bag and take anywhere. See you on the trail!
