I am often reminded that God created us to be one thing: Christ-followers. But in being Christ-followers, we will find that we are never really any-other-one-thing again…
And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship…(Exodus 31:3, KJV)
Because it is God Who gives all wisdom and understanding and knowledge, and all skills and abilities and crafts!
Joe is a woodworker. But He is not just a woodworker. By God’s guidance, right now, he is also a farmer and a bee-keeper and a logger, and he will probably be a timber-framer soon. At times, he is also a plumber and an electrician and a blacksmith. He has been a car mechanic, a teacher, a dry-waller, a roll-former, a barista, and an entire spectrum of home-remodeling-professionals, and every one of those skills has already, or may yet, come in handy in our life on the homestead today!
This particular Sabbath, on a lovely, sunny day at the beach, he was an artist, worshipping the Lord by sketching the beauty of His creation.
There will be many days when Joe is a woodworker. That appears to be a large part of the path that the Lord has laid before us. But we won’t get too caught up in labels! Because, at the end of every day, no matter what we think we are, there is only one needful thing…
But one thing is needful…(Luke 10:42, KJV)
To be Christ-followers. Everything else we are is up to Him!
